The remains of a body found by police in New Houghton have been identified as a woman missing from her home in Mansfield.
Janet Bacon (74) was reported missing from her home in Abbot Road by her family on September 15, 2011.
Mrs Bacon’s remains were found by officers during a fingertip search of an area of rough ground in New Houghton on Sunday, April 1.
Police began searching the area following the discovery of a human skull by a man walking his dog on Saturday, March 31.
Forensic and DNA tests have confirmed the identity of the body as Mrs Bacon.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and police are preparing a file for the coroner.
