Chesterfield Christmas Lights 2018
Get that festive glow at Chesterfield Borough Council’s Christmas lights switch-on!
Join Chesterfield Borough Council and Peak FM on Sunday 18 November for some festive cheer at the annual Christmas lights switch-on.
The fun begins at noon with stalls and fairground rides in the market place and town centre. Children will be able to see Paddington outside Chesterfield Visitor Information Centre in Rykneld Square, opposite the Crooked Spire church between noon and12.30pm; 1pm and 1.30pm; 2pm and 2.30pm; and 3pm and 3.30pm.
Santa will be in his grotto in the Market Hall from 11am until 3.30pm to let your little ones tell him what is on their Christmas wish list. Entry is £4.50, which includes a present for each child.
Shoppers can find their early festive bargains. Chesterfield Market Hall is open from 10am to 6pm with a wide selection of stalls on the outdoor market too. Many of the town’s independent and high street stores will also be open to make sure there is something for everyone when it comes to getting their Christmas gift list sorted.
You can enter a prize draw for a fantastic hamper of presents from the traders on the open market and the Market Hall. Just pick up an entry form from the Market Café in the Market Hall. Two winners will be drawn on stage at the switch-on event so make sure you’re there in case you’re lucky enough to win.
St Mary and All Saints; Church (the Crooked Spire) will be open from noon until 6pm with its popular Festival of Christmas Trees, featuring decorated trees from around 100 groups and organisations from Chesterfield.
The main event
The stage show in New Square gets underway at 3.30pm with your favourite Peak FM presenters taking to the stage with fun competitions and musical entertainment, including a special performance from Local Vocals Choir!
Stars from Cinderella, this year’s pantomime at the Chesterfield Borough Council-run Pomegranate Theatre, will be appearing live on stage.
The main event –the switch-on – takes place at 4.45pm by the pantomime stars, Chesterfield’s mayor, Councillor Stuart Brittain and Paddington.

A magical pantomime for all the family
Pantomime returns to the Chesterfield Borough Council-run Pomegranate Theatre from Saturday 1 December to Sunday 6 January with everybody’s favourite story Cinderella. This classic ‘rags to riches’ tale will enchant both young and old with 3D effects and lavish sets and costumes.
It stars Naomi Wilkinson (Milkshake, Naomi's Nightmares of Nature Marrying Mum and Dad, Countryfile) in the title role of Cinderella and Rhydian Roberts (X Factor) as Prince Charming. Also starring Ashley Stirling as the Fairy Godmother, Josh Benson as Buttons and Ben Millerman and John Danbury star as the Ugly Sisters.
So get your invitation to the ball right away! Be ready to hiss and boo the Ugly Sisters, cheer Cinderella and her best friend Buttons and find out if the slipper fits in this sparkling show which promises to be a hit with all the family.

Chesterfield residents park for free
Chesterfield borough residents can use their parking disc to park for free on Sunday 18 November for the Christmas lights switch on thanks to Chesterfield Borough Council.
Motorists can use the parking disc they received with the Council Tax bills to park for free in the following off-street pay and display car parks:

- Devonshire Street
- Durrant Road
- Hollis Lane
- Holywell Cross
- Queen’s Park (North and South)
- Spa Lane
- Station Road
- St Mary’s Gate
- Theatre Lane
