Chesterfield earn last gasp point at Aldershot

Tom Denton equalised in the 94th minute.

Chesterfield came away from Aldershot with a point on Saturday thanks to Tom Denton's 94th minute header.

Manager John Sheridan made four changes to his starting line up following Tuesday's humiliating 5-1 home defeat against Hartlepool, with Anthony Gerrard, David Buchanan, Curtis Weston and on loan right back Matt Tootle coming in to the side for his debut.

The latter joined the Spireites on Friday until the end of the season from Notts County.

It was the home side who stuck first on the stroke of half-time after a pretty even first forty-five minutes, when Mo Bettamer was brought down in the box by Laurence Maguire.

Subsequently, Ethan Chislett stepped up to slot the ball beyond Luke Coddington to make it 1-0.

The Spireites responded well in the second half, levelling the score on 50 minutes through Scott Boden.

Anthony Gerrard rose well from a corner to head the ball into Boden's path, and the former Wrexham forward was on hand to flick the ball into the net to score his ninth of the campaign.

On 70 minutes, the hosts regained their advantage through a calm, slotted finish by Aldershot midfielder Jack Powell.

However, it was the visitors who had the last laugh, as substitute Denton nodded in Curtis Weston's precise delivery in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

The result leaves the Spireites 21st in the National League.
