Appeal launched after suspicious incidents in Buxton

Police in Buxton are appealing for information after reports of a woman attempting to steal cash from elderly residents in the town.

Officers say they have received a number of reports of a woman approaching homes of elderly people yesterday evening (Monday 11th July) and gaining entry to their property by asking for help or asking to use their toilet.

Whilst inside the address, the woman is believed to ask for money and where she has been refused has then helped herself to cash before leaving.

She is being described as white, around 5ft 2ins tall and of slim build. She worse her blonde hair tied back.

Detective Constable Simon Wakelin said: “Following the suspicious incidents I would like to encourage residents to be vigilant and to not allow anyone that they do not know into their homes.”

“The woman is described as being polite and convincing. I would encourage anyone who may be approached in this way to close the door and call police.”

Anyone with any information about the incidents is asked to contact DC Simon Wakelin on 101.
