Cafe to combat food waste set to launch in Chesterfield

A new social eating outlet's opening up in North Derbyshire this weekend, in a bid to reduce food waste in our area.

The 'Waste Not Cafe' will begin providing meals from 6pm at Chesterfield Baptist Church on Sunday, using only surplus produce from supermarkets.

Greg Hewitt's one of the initiative's founders-he's confident it'll be a success, following a trial earlier this year.

He said: "By coming along you are helping to reduce food waste in Chesterfield and we're doing good for the community. Trying to bring people together, make connections and have a nice time.

"You get a three course meal made from surplus supermarket produce that would have otherwise gone to waste. It is a great way to stop food going to waste and we're trying to raise money for the local foodbank as well."

Similar events will take place on the third Sunday of every month from now on.
