Chair of the local enterprise partnership for Derbyshire wants to make our area the first carbon neutral region in the country

Elizabeth Fagan's been speaking to Peak FM about D2N2's ambitions.

Ambitious plans to make the whole of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Carbon Neutral by 2050 have been discussed.

The 'Local Enterprise Parnership D2N2' say they're persuading local businesses to look at reducing their carbon emissions.

Chair of the group, Elizabeth Fagan, told us they want to be the first area in the UK to hit the goal;

"We're encouraging and working with local businesses to look at their opportunities for improving their productivity.

"We're trying to help them understand their carbon footprint and how they can work towards reducing it."

Mrs. Fagan's also hopeful that a 'green economy' will help create new industries and jobs in the area;

"We see this as a once in a lifetime opportunity to bring new eco-friendly businesses to the region.

"To become the first carbon neutral region in the UK is something which we're eager to achieve."
