Chesterfield couple raise more than £1,400 in memory of daughter

A couple from Hollingwood have raised more than £1,400 for the children's ward at Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Sharon and Darren Morrell climbed Ben Nevis to mark what would have been the 10th birthday of their daughter Summer- who passed away due to a hole in her heart as a baby.

And Sharon said they were grateful for the support they received from the local community: "We wanted to raise money for all the children in the Nightingale Ward for if they have to use the ward if they're poorly, so they've got some toys and equipment and something modern and up-to-date to go and play with."

Darren admitted it was emotional when they completed the challenge: "I looked up at the sky and said 'this one's for you, Summer."

"We hugged and then thought about all the people who have donated. We only set £1,000 as a target and we've smashed it!"
