Chesterfield man aims to recruit volunteers to help the elderly during Coronavirus pandemic

A Chesterfield man has told Peak FM he wants to assemble a team of volunteers to ensure the vulnerable and elderly in our area are taken care of during the covid-19 outbreak.

Tom Oxley wants help with setting up a befriending service and delivering supplies to those most in need during the coronavirus outbreak

He told Peak FM what he wants people to help with: "The first one is obviously befriending an elderly person, that can be just getting their telephone number and calling them on a daily basis to make sure they're okay.

"The other thing is for people to collect donations to go shopping and drop the shopping off for the elderly people or collect their medication.

Tom is urging people in the town to ensure vulnerable people aren't left isolated: "Put things aside. We need to come together as a community. I'm more than happy to lead it. People just need to come together and help the more vulnerable residents."
