Chesterfield's MP criticises travellers who've recently caused disruption in the town

Toby Perkins has been speaking to PM on the issue.

Chesterfield's MP is hopeful the travelling community won't continue to disrupt different areas of the town.

Toby Perkins has been speaking to Peak FM following recent incidents at the old Walton Hospital site and Stand Road Park.

He says removing travellers off private land can have devastating financial consequences for local firms;

"The costs attached to doing this can be huge.

"It can prevent businesses opening, it can stop staff entering the work place, it can sometimes lead to further break-ins and damage to property."

Mr Perkins also believes it's equally as problematic when travellers set up camp on land owned and maintained by the Council;

"It is a significant problem, both the scale of the visitations, the mess that gets left, and in some cases the lawlessness that accompanies it.

"It's something that we just don't want to see here in Chesterfield."
