Children hurt in coach crash in North Derbyshire

Officers investigating a coach crash in north Derbyshire have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

The collision occurred shortly after 9am today (Thursday July 14). The coach was travelling along the M1 southbound between Woodall Services and the exit for junction 30, when it crossed from lane one to lane four and collided with the central reservation. The coach then exited at junction 30 and travelled along the A6135 towards Renishaw.

Five children were treated at the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service but none was seriously injured. The driver of the coach was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. His condition is not known.

The coach party was on its way from Scunthorpe to Alton Towers in Staffordshire when the collision happened. The road was clear by noon after the children were taken back to school in another coach.
