Commuters warned not to travel to Nottingham train station following large fire

People in North Derbyshire planning to travel to Nottingham today are being told not to by East Midlands trains, after a large blaze broke out at Nottingham station this morning.

It's being described as a 'large incident' by fire crews.

East Midlands Trains says it's unable to run services or provide alternative road transport from the station.

Fire crews said they are unsure about how long it will take to control the blaze, Eight crews are at the city centre station after the fire broke out at about 06:30 GMT.

Flames and smoke have been seen by eyewitnesses there. The building has been evacuated and trains have been stopped from entering and leaving all platforms.

A cordon has been put in place outside the building.

East Midlands trains have published further travel and refund information for commuters here.

A spokesperson said on twitter: "At present we do not have a firm estimate as to when Nottingham station will be able to re-open however we expect trains to be disrupted on all routes through Nottingham for the whole of Friday 12th January."
