The police have recently launched a fresh campaign to tackle the issue.
Derbyshire Police's annual crackdown on Drug and Drink driving has begun.
Amy from Chesterfield is the main focus of this year's campaign, after seeing her then boyfriend get hit by a drunk driver.
She's suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder since.
Now she's aiming to raise awareness for those going through similar difficulties;
"I feel like I need to help other people. Not just people who've been injured physically, but people who've been psychologically damaged as well."
"Hopefully hearing a voice of somebody who has been through it will make people more aware of the consequences drink driving can have."
She also had this message for anyone who's willing to risk drink driving; "You're risking your own life, as well as others. You have to think about their families and friends too, who have to deal with the aftermath of it all. It's far too much to risk, there's no need for it at all, it's just really silly."
