DCC Prepares for Snow

Derbyshire County Council is planning for cases of extreme weather on the region\'s roads.

They have enlisted the help of more than 100 farmers to add to the £4.5 million they have available to spend on gritting and ploughing.

An initial £2 million is available for day to day gritting with a firther £2.5 million in case it is required.

Local farmers signed up to the scheme will be mostly used to clear lesser used rural routes which would not normally be covered in the gritter's rounds.

The council hopes the 20,000 tonnes of grit in their stores will be enough to see them through.

Simon Spencer who is the Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport spoke to Peak FM news.
