Derbyshire business man concerned by youth unemployment

Ian Greenaway is the Director of MTM Products in Chesterfield and believes the problem is young people leave school with no skills for work.

Also the President of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire's Chamber of Commerce Mr Greenaway feels that many young people are just not employable.

It follows the release of new figures that revealed the number of young people who are unemployed has passed the one million mark for the first time

Commenting on Business Secretary Vince Cable's introduction of a package of measures to encourage companies to take on more young employees, Ian Greenaway, President of the DNCC said: "Whilst providing financial incentives to encourage more businesses to take on apprentices and young employees between the ages of  16-24 is a positive step, it won’t be effective in isolation. More needs to be done to look at the skills gap and why so many school-leavers are considered unemployable.
