Derbyshire Police have these tips on how to prevent getting scammed over Christmas

Derbyshire police are reminding people in our patch to be vigilant if they're doing Christmas shopping online

It's currently international fraud awareness week and officers want people to watch out for tell-tale signs of a potential scam.

The force's fraud protect officer Tammy Barnes said: "If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. When people are searching online, you're constantly looking for the best price.

"If something is coming out and looking like quite a reduced price that would start ringing alarm bells to me.

"People need to be a little bit more vigilant when they're entering their details when buying items online. We always say that if you're setting up an account, please make sure you use strong passwords and just be very careful about who you are giving your bank details out to."
