Eckington sports facility gets investment boost in carbon reduction plan

Work's due to begin next week.

North East Derbyshire District Council has continued to follow up on its pledge to reduce carbon emissions and improve its leisure facilities by investing £200,000 into the Eckington Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre.

The money will be spent on refurbishing the aging parts of the facility and insulating and re-roofing the building. The investment will make significant improvements to both the life of the building and thermal efficiency of the centre.

Cabinet member for Partnerships and Leisure, Cllr Lewis said: “We are delighted to get this work underway. We are committed to deliver on our Carbon Reduction Plan, and have set clear aims where we can not only invest in our facilities and improve them for the wellbeing of the people who use them, but also consider the environmental impact and ensure the building is as efficient as possible.

This investment will improve the facilities ability to retain heat, cut running costs and reduce carbon emissions. Acting now ensures we can make a positive environmental impact whilst improving the facility for our community for years to come”.

Work is set to commence on 11 November 2019 and be completed early in the New Year. We apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst works take place, however, only minimal disruption is expected. Please contact the centre directly on 01246 217481 with any further queries.
