Engine maker Rolls-Royce is planning to lay-off at least 9-thousand people

The news was announced earlier this morning.

Nine thousand jobs are going at Rolls-Royce.

The British engine-maker employs 52-thousand people worldwide - and has a branch in nearby Derby.

They say the cuts are needed to make annual savings of more than one billion pounds.

It's blamed a drop in demand because of the coronavirus pandemic - with most of the redundancies going in its civil aerospace business.
