Fundraisers 'deflated' after vandals damage new park equipment

Volunteers at Chesterfield's Monkey park say they've been left feeling deflated after vandals caused damage to equipment there

The friends of Monkey Park group said on Facebook: "We've gone from feeling elated to feeling deflated in less than 24 hours

"Last night, the new play area was vandalised, causing around £950 worth of damage. This is money that could have gone towards providing extra facilities in the park.

"The new play area has not been funded by the council... it is the result of hard work by the local community and donations from local families and businesses. A lot of time, effort and money has gone into creating this facility for the whole community to enjoy.

"Derbyshire Constabulary have been informed - if you have any information please ring 101 quoting reference 1464-200720

"Alternatively, ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/pre-form to report anonymously.

However, in a later post, the group confirmed: "Hopefully, the park will open very soon... Watch this space!!!"
