Grassmoor resident to light candles in respect of those who have passed away due to Coronavirus

A Grassmoor resident wants fellow residents to join her in paying tribute to those who've died from Coronavirus.

Jayne Tolley, who lives on Chapel Road, wants locals to light their candles at the same time people will be paying tribute to NHS frontline staff at 8pm on Thursday.

She told Peak FM: "What I'm planning on doing is putting a bag at the bottom of my front door with candles that I've put in plastic bags, asking people to take one and light one to remember the people that have actually passed away from this virus.

"I just want everyone to join forces, light a candle and to show the families who have lost loved ones  that people are thinking about them as well as the NHS staff."

"All you see on TV is a number. That number is somebody's mother, somebody's father, somebody's grandparent. They're going to be buried and they won't have the wake and remembrance that they deserve. They're actually people and they need to have some sort of acknowledgement."

She's placed hundreds of candles outside of her property, and unless there's an emergency in the local area, Police officers from Clay Cross are expected to participate in the candle-lit tribute.
