Holmgate residents' anger at government's disability benefits system

A full time-carer from Holmgate has told Peak FM she's 500 pounds worse off a month since the government rolled out it's new disability benefits scheme

Personal independence payments came in to replace the old Disability Living allownace in 2013.

And Jeanie Kennedy who cares for her husband Steve full-time says she's finding it hard to cope: "I don't want to have to struggle anymore. It is soul destroying.

"Theresa May should come up here and she needs to speak to people who are on PIP that are struggling."

Jeannie also believes the changes have affected others in our area: "It needs to be addressed now. People are taking their own lives because they can't afford to live."

"We're up to our necks in debt. We just can't afford to pay all our bills."
