Labour retain control of Chesterfield Borough Council

Labour have retained their leadership of Chesterfield Borough Council following yesterday's local elections.

In total, 28 labour candidates were elected to the authority, with 17 Liberal Democrats and 3 independents.

The authority's labour leader, Cllr Tricia Gilby said: "We have listened very carefully to what people have said on the doorstep, they have some concerns about the leadership of the labour party nationally, they have also shown they feel betrayed on Brexit by all parties.

"On behalf of the Labour party, I can say that we will definitely take their views into account as we run the council for the next four years."
