Local firefighter travels to Mexico for potentially life-saving treatment

A Dronfield firefighter who was told he had just weeks to live due to an aggressive brain tumour has gone to Mexico in a bid to receive treatment which could save his life.

Stefan Hawcroft's sister, Emma started a GoFundMe page in order to get Stefan urgent treatment in a bid to save his life. The page has raised more than £95,000 so far.

The family had planned to fly Stefan to Germany for the treatment due to it not being available in the UK, however Emma says they have opted to fly to Mexico for the treatment.

In a Facebook post, Emma said: "Sorry I’ve been a little quiet with fundraising these last few days but I have exciting news! As a family we have had to make a tough decision, with Germany saying it could still be ‘weeks’ before they can get Stefan there we have had to make the decision in taking him to Mexico for the same treatment!

"Stefan, Rebecca, mum and Daniel are all flying out tomorrow to start treatment Friday! It’s all very scary with it being so far away but we have researched and researched and want to give Stefan that CHANCE!"

"Please please send all your love and prayers and please keep sharing and donating! I will be posting pictures on Stefan's journey! Let’s all just remember Stefan IS the bravest man!"
