Motorbike rider dies in collision on A38

A motorcyclist has died after being involved in a collision with a car on the A38 near Alfreton.

Police were called to the southbound side of the duel carriageway at around 7.50pm on Wednesday 20th July to reports that a bike and silver Vauxhall Astra had collided.

When they arrived officers closed the road at Coates Park and northbound at the Watchorn Island with vehicles being turned back.

The rider of the bike, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for some time while investigation work started and didn’t re-open until around 1.30am on Thursday (21st July).

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either of the two vehicles before the crash to call the collision investigation unit on 101, quoting incident number 679 of 20th July.
