The first bricks have been laid as work begins on building a new £4 million enhanced leisure facility at Clowne.
Six months into a 12-month build programme to create the new Go! Active @ The Arc facility, the ground works, pool linings, steel frames and drainage have all been completed and now the lower level brick skins have started to be installed.
The new two-storey building is set to open in early 2017 and offers a significant enhancement on facilities currently available at Clowne Sports Centre.
Bolsover District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Councillor Mary Dooley said, “It’s been great to see how the building work progresses week-by-week and we are really pleased with how it is going. The new facility will be modern and offer a range of top class facilities for all ages to enjoy, so we can’t wait for it to be finished and open to the public.”
The new facility is being built alongside Bolsover District Council’s current Clowne Sports Centre and will include:
25m swimming pool and smaller teaching pool
100 station gym
Group exercise rooms and a spinning studio
Four badminton court sports hall
Food and beverage offer
Children’s ‘soft play’ zone
Universal changing facilities
To help celebrate the new facility, the Council in partnership with Strategic Leisure Development Partner – Pulse - has launched a new 365 household membership scheme aimed at whole households getting engaged in health and fitness. For just £365 per year, a household (up to 6 persons – 2 parents/guardians and up to 4 children/family members) can enjoy a whole host of activities at the new facility. You can register your household details by visiting www.goactive.org.uk
Councillor Dooley added, “We want to create a family friendly facility, where people can be active, stay fit and have fun together and our 365 household memberships does just that. It is only open for a limited time though so I would urge people to register their interest now to take advantage of this superb offer.”
Chris Johnson, Managing Director at Pulse, said, “As strategic leisure development partner we are delighted to be working with Bolsover District Council on this project. The work is progressing fantastically and we are confident that we will deliver a modern, sustainable facility that is accessible by everyone in the community - on time and within budget.”
The new facility is set to open its doors to the public in January 2017.
