A new documentary series featuring Derbyshire Police will be shown on television for the first time tonight

The force has previously starred in traffic cops on Channel 5, but the new series will show the side of policing which rarely gets seen by the public.

Police: Hour of Duty? is a new format following an hour at a Derbyshire police station in real-time.

Superintendent Sarah McAughtrie said: "This really shows the other side of policing so the bit that people might not realise that we do so much, so concentrating more on the vulnerabilities that are involved in it.

"For example, tonight there is some stuff about some drugs offences but actually what's behind that, what's led that person to need to sell drugs in the first place?"

"One of the PCSOs talks about how she gets to go home at the end of the day and gt in her comfy bed she takes it for granted. Some people can't take that for granted because they can't do it so I think it will be a bit of an eye-opener for some people and they might not realise some of the things we get involved with as well in policing."

The show airs tonight (May 4th) at 9pm on Channel 5.
