North Derbyshires Forest Gump Nears Marathon End

Eric Keeler is raising funds for Spinal Research.

A Wingerworth man is close to finishing his mammoth 4200 mile marathon across America.

He began in Maine on the border of Canada in April, and aims to be at the Mexican border in December.

He's currently have a well earned break for a few days, before resuming for the final leg of his six month journey.

"It's starting to take it out my body a bit, but still ploughing through.

"The shoes have just given up, i'm going to get another poair which should see me through to the end.

"It's been tough, and it's getting tougher, but it's worth it.

"I'm taking a few days break down in Phoenix, grab some new running shoes and repair my body which is slowly falling after three thousand miles.

"Blisters are coming up daily, the legs and knees are falling apart, but it's expected after you've run across continent.

"Hopefully they'll get me to the other side, then I can sit on the beach for a week!".

Currently, Eric has 700 miles left, but faces dangerous conditions ahead, as he approaches the Mojavy Desert;

"Five days as far as I can work out where there's no gas stations, no hours, no nothing. I'll have to stock up on the stroller with as much food and water as I possibly can before I head out onto that.

"But once I get through that, It's a few days to LA, and then four days down the coast to San Diego and at the end at last!"
