The discovery was made late last week.
An appeal's been launched to the public for information after two swans were found shot along the Chesterfield canal.
It took place in the Worksop area but a financial reward has been offered for anyone who can help lead investigators to the perpetrators.
Rod Auton from the Chesterfield canal trust has described the incident - which took place last Friday, as disturbing;
"Lots of people walk and cycle along there, and it's just shocking that this sort of thing could happen.
"You go to this idyllic spot, and the last thing that you expect to see is the destruction of wildlife, especially in such a horrible and savage fashion."
He's pleading with anybody who knows anything about the incident to come forward;
"If we don't catch who did this, then they're likely to do it again.
"If it isn't another swan, then it'll be a heron or another lovely piece of wildlife along the canal."
