Parents expected to protest in Matlock today over the way children with special educational needs are treated in the school system

It's due to go ahead later in Hall Leys Park.

Parents will be protesting in Matlock today over the way children with special educational needs are treated in the school system.

It's part of a national movement involving 25 different towns across England.

Nikola Matulewicz-Evans has organised a protest picnic in Hall Leys Park.

She told us too many families aren't being supported properly; "Parents are often blamed for their children's behaviour, they're blamed for causing their children's needs. Often there's threats of criminalization when their children fall into crisis and are unable to attend school."

"Children's special educational needs are not being recognised. When they are recognised, they're actually being ignored in schools. Parents are having a real battle in getting their children's needs recognised and supported."
