Peak Railway Association aiming to re-establish former link between Buxton and Matlock

The plans will be discussed at a public meeting this evening.

The Peak Railway Association are inviting Buxton residents to an open meeting tonight in the town.

They're aiming to improve their physical presence in the town and want to create a new High Peak branch there.

Project manager, Paul Tomlinson, says re-opening the rail link between Buxton and Matlock-which hasn't run for 50 years-is a key aim;

"It is a major absence from the railway map, linking two principle areas of Derbyshire, and passing through the National Park, as well as other areas which are heavily visited by tourists in the summer months."

"To re-establish the railway would also offer a much more environmentally friendly means of getting people into those areas, without them having to use their cars."

It's taking place at the University of Derby lecture theatre on Devonshire Road from 7.30pm.
