Police to give advice on how to protect your home in Walton this month

Residents are invited to a home security event set to take place in Walton later this month.

The event will give people a chance to speak to local Safer Neighbourhood officers about any concerns or issues, and pick up advice on crime prevention.

There will also be a chance to find out more about setting up or being part of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, and residents can also sign up to Derbyshire Alert.

Derbyshire Alert is a free community messaging system for the whole of Derbyshire. By signing up, people can receive news and appeals, local crime information, and prevention advice by email or through other options.

It also gives residents the chance to feed back information to the local policing teams to help them better look after your neighbourhood.

PCSO Jayne Priestley, of the Walton and West Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “In recent months there have been a number of burglaries and thefts in the area, and while patrols are underway and arrests have been made, many residents have told us they would be interested in being part of a Neighbourhood Watch to help us to better prevent crime and strengthen links with other community members and the police.

“It is also an opportunity for us to listen to any concerns people may have, and there will be a chance for residents to express their interest in a home security visit.”

PCSO Priestley added: “Although the event has been set up in Walton, other residents from the Chesterfield area are welcome to attend. We look forward to meeting lots of new faces and working with the community to help prevent crime in the longer term.”

The event will take place on Thursday 27 February, between 7pm and 9pm, at Walton Evangelical Church on Moorland View Road. People can drop in between those times, with no need to make a prior appointment.
