Around a dozen people have volunteered their skills to a steering group designed to take forward the project to create a new skate park for Ashbourne.
The group took shape at a meeting at St Oswald's Church Hall last Thursday (14 July).
The District Council's community engagement officer Ros Hession said: "It's really good to see such a wide range of skills on the group, including skate park design, project management and experience of running groups and fund raising.
"There are already lots of great ideas for the possible design of a new skate park and some of the younger members of the group are coming back with initial plans at our next meeting in a few weeks' time."
Neil Moulden, of Derbyshire Dales Council for Voluntary Services, is assisting the group to constitute itself so it can open a bank account and continue to progress the project.
More than 60 people attended an initial meeting in the town last month, organised by Derbyshire Dales District Council to gauge local appetite for a new skate park, which would cost around £70,000.
The District Council itself cannot fund the project, but wants to work in partnership with the local community to seek external funding.
