Sun Could Set on Peak District Pub

A Peak District pub could soon be out of business if plans to increase the tenant\'s rent by 60% go ahead.

The Rising Sun in Middleton by Wirksworth, which is owned by Punch Taverns would only produce a net income of £10,000 if the changes go ahead.

David Mountford is the current landlord. He claims the changes would mean they'd have to leave the pub as it would be no longer viable to run for such a small margin.

He took his cause to Westminster yesterday as part of a rally which included members of the Campaign for Real Ale and the Federation of Small Businesses.

The increase has been calculated by Punch with David claiming they haven't taken into account the turnover of the place but have just followed their code of practice by speaking with the royal Institute of chartered Surveyers.
