The organiser of Chesterfield Pride urges the LGBT community in North Derbyshire to remain positive

Dan Walker's been speaking to us as part of pride month.

Support is still available for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender) community across Chesterfield and North Derbyshire.

That's the message from the organiser of Chesterfield Pride; Dan Walker.

He's been speaking to us as part of pride month, which is taking place until the end of June.

Even though this year's pride event in the town's had to be cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Mr. Walker's urging people to communicate in other ways;

"It's important during these times to reach out to friends, and there are lots of social media platforms to keep in touch with each other.

"Chesterfield and North Derbyshire have got an excellent support network through 'Derbyshire LGBT +'.

"You can find them on all social media and on their website."

Mr. Walker added that it's been a testing time for the LGBT community;

"This has been a very challenging time for everyone I think, with the LGBT community suffering in particular.

"Not having the social aspect of meeting people, pride events to look forward to and the feeling of being isolated from like-minded people isn't nice."
