Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins says he's informed his party that he'd like to stand again in the next general election.
Mr Perkins has been the town's member of parliament since 2010, and retained his seat in both the 2015 and 2017 general elections.
The labour politician told us he hopes party members in the town back him once again: "There's also a job to try and ensure that people feel listened to, that people understand the basis on which I'm making my decisions and hopefully even if they don't agree with those decisions they can see that they were faithful to what I promised in advance of the election."
I can confirm that I have informed @uklabour that I wish to continue to be the Labour Party candidate for #Chesterfield at the next election. Representing my town and my party has been a huge honour & I'll continue to do it to the best of my ability as long as voters want me to.— Toby Perkins (@tobyperkinsmp) July 8, 2019
He added: "I think it's incredibly important that we have a member of parliament that lives in the town, that understands the issues in the town, that makes a positive attempt to promote the good about Chesterfield but is also willing to take on institutions when they get it wrong."
