Two arrested after man is hospitalised in Chesterfield

Two men have been arrested in connection with an assault in Chesterfield.

Staff at Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital called police on Sunday, July 3 to tell officers that a 26-year-old man had been brought to A&E by ambulance.

Investigations revealed that he had been assaulted by three men in Corporation Street, outside the Pomegranate Theatre, sometime between 4am and 4.30am that day.

The victim, who has serious head injuries, was later transferred to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

Two men, both aged 24, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. They remain in custody and are being questioned.
