Seven security guards and two attack dogs chased the intruders from the grounds of the £6million estate.

David, 43, and Victoria, 44, were left shaken, with a local source saying: “This now feels like a sustained attempt to target the house when they’re away.”

Neither the couple or their four children were in the Cotswolds mansion at the time.

"The family split their time between the idyllic rural retreat and a central London home.

The source said: “Luckily they had laid on extra security after the last incident — including several staff and dogs — who were able to protect the property.

“Otherwise this could have had a very different outcome. They are re-evaluating their security again and will bring in more if they need to.”

The latest burglary bid happened during the early hours of November 14 — nearly four weeks after a balaclava-clad gang tried to break in.

Those raiders were caught on the property’s CCTV and were also seen off by security.

Both incidents are believed to have been masterminded by a gang targeting wealthy individuals in the area.

Biotech tycoon Sir Christopher Evans and the widow of the Beatles’ producer Sir George Martin are among residents who have been burgled this year.

Thames Valley Police said: “We were called at around 6.15am on Wednesday 14th following reports of a man behaving suspiciously near a property.

“The Neighbourhood Policing Team has been made aware.”
