Corrie Favourite Set to Return

Emily Bishop is being lined up for a sensational return to the soap.

Eileen Derbyshire, who plays the Corrie favourite, last appeared in the show in November 2015 before taking a break.

Her hiatus was originally meant to last six months, but when it was extended reports circulated that the 86-year-old had acted her last scenes on the show.

However, her name has allegedly appeared on a list of characters set to return to Weatherfield in the autumn.

And an insider told the Daily Star: “She’s on a break and the door is open. There hasn’t been any contact from Eileen saying she intends to leave.”

In November it looked like Eileen’s time on the soap had reached a natural conclusion, with a show source telling The Sun that it would be hard for her to readjust to the fast pace of filming after more than a year away.

They said: “All of her cast mates have accepted she won’t be returning.

“She’s 85 and has been out of the show for a year, so she probably would have found it tough to get back into the fast pace of filming.

“That aside, Eileen’s family is her absolute priority, and she has devoted herself to them since deciding on her break last November.

“Of course, as far as the bosses are concerned, there will always be a place for her on the show.

“She has not told them she wants to quit, but those around her know she won’t be back.”

“And her friends on set know she’s on the brink of retirement.

Eileen, who won an MBE for services to drama in 2010, is one of the ITV soap’s most recognisable faces.

Only Bill Roache, 84, has been on the show longer.
