Zac Efron has shared the first photo of himself as real-life serial killer Ted Bundy in a new biopic premiering this year.
The 30-year-old star has swapped his Baywatch trunks for an outlaw tee in what promises to be one of the most interesting releases this year.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile follows the love story between Bundy and his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, played by Lily Collins.
Collins also shared a photo of her character on social media, as did director Joe Berlinger, a documentarist debuting in fiction.
"Excited to be doing time on my new Zac Efron and Lily Collins movie... we start shooting tomorrow," he wrote.
The role can be a game changer for Efron, who has been associated with heartthrob characters and comedies.
"Ted Bundy is going to be a challenge," he told BuzzFeed.
"I think it's going to be different and it's going to be fun. I'm super stoked."
The movie tells the story of Ted Bundy through the eyes of his girlfriend, who played a pivotal role in delivering him to justice.
Bundy was sentenced and executed in 1989 after confessing to murdering 30 women in a period of 4 years.
He is one of the most famous serial killers of all time.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile is rumoured to open at the Cannes Film Festival in May, but delayed production will likely push it forward.
