Emmerdale has been named best soap for the third year running at the Inside Soap Awards.

The ITV soap dominated the evening scooping eight awards, while nearest runner-up Coronation Street took home a respectable five awards at the awards show held at London's Hippodrome Casino tonight.

Emmerdale's Danny Miller won the best actor gong while his co-stars Dominic Brunt and Gillian Kearney won the awards for funniest male and best bad girl.

Lucy Fallon won the best actress award after her long-running storyline showing Bethany Platt's horrendous grooming and sex gang ordeal, while Julia Goulding took home the best newcomer prize.

EastEnders also has reason to celebrate with Walford-cum-Strictly star Davood Ghadami (Kush Kazemi) picking up the Sexiest Male prize for the show, while Albert Square original Gillian Taylforth accepted an Outstanding Achievement Award for her years as Kathy Beale.

Hollyoaks took home a win for the hilarious double act of Lysette Anthony and Nicole Barber-Lane, who pick up the Best Partnership Award.

Doctors meanwhile took home its first-ever Inside Soap Award as Lorna Laidlaw secures the prize for Best Daytime Star for her role as Mrs Tembe.

Steven Murphy, editor of Inside Soap, said: “This has been one of the biggest battles the Inside Soap Awards have ever seen.
