June Bernicoff has revealed that she won’t be returning to the show following the death of her husband Leon.
Fans were left heartbroken when Leon, 83, died following a short illness on December 23 and now his wife of 53 years has revealed that she won’t be returning to the Channel 4 telly-watching series without him, saying that the NTA tribute was a “great finale.”
When a fan tweeted: “Would you do the show with one of your daughters? X”
June responded: “It was a great adventure with a great finale with the NTA?”
The Sun Online has contacted Gogglebox reps for comment.
Leon and June and their sofas had been permanent fixtures on Gogglebox since it started in 2013.
On Tuesday night’s NTAs Doctor Foster star Suranne Jones announced that it had won Best Factual Entertainment Show for the fourth year running, telling the audience: "God bless you Leon. It's Gogglebox."
Taking to the stage, Leeds-based sisters Izzie and Ellie Warner thanked everyone involved in the show, and made a special mention of Leon and his wife June, who were long-standing favourites of the show.
The sisters said: "This is absolutely amazing and it’s a fabulous opportunity to be here and I'd just like to say thank you to the NTAs for having us, and a massive thank you to everybody who has voted.
"It's the fourth year in a row that we've won so it's a real privilege. Everybody puts so much hard work into it and we just want to say thank you and this is on behalf of everybody.
"We'd like to dedicate this award to Leon and June."
In the days following Leon's death, his widow June thanked viewers for their messages of support, saying "Leon would have loved reading them and hearing how much he was loved."
