Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters to return

A new Ghostbusters film is in development, directed by the son of the filmmaker who made the 1984 original.

Jason Reitman confirmed he is developing a new Ghostbusters to be set in the present day.

His father is Ivan Reitman, who directed the 1984 original and the 1989 sequel.

The younger Mr Reitman shared the news on Twitter posting: "Finally got the keys to the car. #GB20."

It is set for release in 2020.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Mr Reitman said: "I've always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a six-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.

"This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the '80s happened in the '80s, and this is set in the present day."

It will still be a family affair, with Ivan Reitman on board as the film's producer.

It's not yet known whether Mr Reitman has secured any of the stars of the original movie like Dan Aykroyd or Bill Murray. Harold Ramis died in 2014.

The last instalment was released in 2016 and featured a female cast including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

This film will follow the trajectory of the original 1980s classics, rather than the 2016 version.
