Zayn admits 'extreme anxiety' as he cancels concert

Zayn Malik has cancelled an appearance at a concert in Dubai because of his "extreme anxiety" about performing on his own.

The former One Direction singer was due to sing at Dubai's Autism Rocks Arena on 7 October but has pulled out because of a crisis in confidence.

In a post on their website, organisers 117 Live said ticket holders would be refunded.

They posted a message from Malik which thanked his fans and said he was "truly sorry to disappoint (them)".

He said: "I have been working over the last three months to overcome my extreme anxiety around major live solo performances.

"I feel I am making progress but I have today acknowledged that I do not feel sufficiently confident to move forward with the planned show in Dubai in October."

Thomas Ovesen, chief executive of 117 Live, said: "Whilst disappointed not to be hosting the planned 7 October Dubai concert, we appreciate Zayn's honest apologies and wish him all the best for the future.

"We will be looking forward to sharing more of Zayn's plans with his Middle East fans when we have such information."

Malik also blamed his anxiety after pulling out of the Capital Summertime Ball in London in June.

Malik quit One Direction in March last year, saying at the time that he wanted to feel "like a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight".

He had been signed off for stress during the band's world tour.

The group came together after the singers entered The X Factor as solo acts and the five became millionaires as the band became the biggest in the world.

Their 2013 album Midnight Memories topped the US Billboard Top 200 chart, making them the first group in history to debut at number one with their first three albums.
